Six-year-old, Elizabeth Faller was killed in an accident
caused by a 65-pound Doberman a few minutes after she reached home from school.
Elizabeth was getting out of the bus, and Otto was
running to her to great her as he always did. Elizabeth walked with her dog to
their front yard, and saw that everything was messed up. She knew that she had
to clean it up before her parents saw it. She started cleaning it up, but Otto
kept distracting her and trying to play. Then it happened. The little girl got
tired and leaned her head on Otto. The dog thought they were playing a game, so
he ran off. Elizabeth could not balance herself and fell over backwards. Her
head hit a sharp rock. Right then, Mrs. Faller came outside to investigate why
Elizabeth had not come inside yet. What she saw shocked her greatly, and she
immediately called the ambulance.
“Our Doberman, Otto was a fun, lovable dog.” Mrs. Faller
said. “We would never expect him to do anything like this.”
The doctor told Mr. and Mrs. Faller that Elizabeth had
hit a weak part of her head and would be going into coma. After months of being
in the hospital, the doctor told Elizabeth’s parents the words they were hoping
not to hear.
“Sorry, Elizabeth did not survive.”
“One thing we know
for sure,” Mr. Faller said. “Is that Otto is going back to the animal shelter
and that we will be shedding tears for the rest of our lives.”
