The Amazing Mathematicians by Manisha Asrani

Once upon a time there were some mathematicians. They lived in different parts of the United States of America. The first mathematician’s name was Leonardo Fibonacci and he lived in Florida. The second mathematician’s name was Leonardo da Vinci and he also lived in Florida. The third mathematician’s name was Sriniivasan Ramanujan and he lived in California. The fourth mathematician’s name was Galileo Galilei and he also lived in California. The last mathematician was the smartest out of all of them. His name was Albert Einstein and he lived in the White House. He told the President, his wife, and his kids the answers to any math questions they asked him.

All of the mathematicians were quite famous, so they all were interviewed and then put in the newspaper. When the mathematicians heard of each other, they decided to meet and participate in a mathematician competition in Maryland. In the competition, mathematicians from all over the country would first compete against each other, and then compete in team competitions. Leonardo Fibonacci, Leonardo da Vinci, Srinivasan Ramanujan, Galileo Galilei, and Albert Einstein planned to meet there a week early so they could practice together and get to know each other.

All the mathematicians except for Albert had no trouble going to Maryland. Albert had to convince the President to let him take a leave for 2 weeks. When he told the President that he was going to participate in the mathematician competition, the President let him go right away.
When all the mathematicians met, they instantly knew that they were never going to break up.

"Hi," said Albert, "Let's start by introducing ourselves and where are from. My name is Albert Einstein and I work at the White House. You can call me Albert."

“My name is Leonardo Fibonacci and I live in Florida. You can call me Leo, " said Leo.

“My name is Leonardo da Vinci and I live in Florida, also," said Leonardo pointing to Leo. “Since you are calling him Leo, you can call me Leonardo."

Leo said, "We live in the same state but we have never met!" Leonardo smiled.

“My name is Srinivasan Ramanujan and I live in California," said Srinivasan. "You can call me Srini."

"My name is Galileo Galilei and I live in California, also," said Galileo. "You can call me Galileo."

"Let’s go to our hotel and freshen up. Then we can go for dinner," said Albert.

The rest of the group agreed. While they were at dinner, Galileo asked what their team name should be because they needed one for the competition. They thought and thought but they could not think of a good name. Finally, Srini came up with ‘The Amazing Mathematicians.’ The group agreed that it was the best name. They decided to start practicing the next day, so they had a deep sleep. When they woke up they had breakfast and then started practicing. They practiced and practiced and practiced all week long.

The day before the competition, they made sure sleep early so they would good in the competition. The woke at 9:00 a.m. and got ready for the competition. The competition was at a big stadium. They went to look for their team cubbie, and then went to look for their spot in the competition. They learned that in both competitions there were 100 questions. When they started the singular competition they were really nervous. They hoped they had scored high. Then it was the team competition. They were not as nervous because they were together as a team. There were a lot of hard questions but each mathematician had their strong point. They worked together and answered all the questions. They knew that they did well.

The next day the newspaper wrote that Albert came first place in the singular competition. Leo came second, and Galileo came in third. It also said that 'The Amazing Mathematicians' came in first place in the team competition. They would have to go to the White House and get their prize. They jumped up and down. They were really excited. Everybody who saw them said "Congratulations!" They drove to the White House and  the president said, "Congratulations!" To Albert he said, "I am proud of you." They were all high-schoolers so each of them got a college scholarship. Then each of them got a trophy for the singular competition. First place, second place, and third place got bigger trophies than fourth and fifth place. There was a huge trophy that said all of their names on it. They would put that in the 'Mathematician Hall of Fame'.

When all of them were going back to their home, they said, " Bye, we should meet again soon."

They went to their town and everybody said, "Congratulations," and they said they could not have done it without their teammates, the other mathematicians. They lived happily ever after.
